About the Miniøya Foundation
The Miniøya Foundation is best known for the Miniøya Festival, a festival just for kids. Since 2010, Miniøya has provided children and their families with wonderful music, art, and cultural experiences in Tøyenparken in Oslo. Miniøya’s vision is to have the courage to push boundaries to create experiences that surprise and engage people across ages, interests, and generations. The festival program consists of music, theater, literature, dance, and activities.
We aim to challenge the concept of children’s culture and introduce audiences to a wide range of musical and cultural experiences within a safe and inclusive setting, where the child’s experience is the focus.
The Miniøya Foundation aims to create high-quality cultural experiences for children. As a nonprofit foundation, we are not-for-profit, and any surplus goes directly toward fulfilling the foundation’s mission statement. In addition to Miniøya, the Miniøya Foundation provides extensive event-planning training for young people through the Miniøya Festival School and in collaboration with DKS Oslo. We also run the year-round program “Miniøya Presents.”
The Miniøya Festival was founded on the initiative of Linn Catrine Lunder and the Øya Festival. The festival was launched on December 1, 2009, with the ambition of challenging the concept of children’s culture. Miniøya has been independent from day one, with no financial or organizational ties to the Øya Festival. The limited liability company Barnefestivalen AS operated the festival until January 2023, when the Miniøya Foundation took over its operation and rights.
