Environment
Miniøya aims to be a role model with a green thumb and a passion for the environment.
Reuse
At Miniøya, we make the most of whatever can be reused. Environmentally friendly, eco-labeled, recyclable, or reusable products should always be our first choice. There are constant product improvements in areas such as decor and festival props, but our main focus is on ensuring that the festival’s decor and infrastructure can be reused (over and over again).

Food Service
The menu at Miniøya is designed to reflect a shared commitment to great taste and nutritious ingredients. When selecting suppliers and partners, we prioritize sustainable production, locally sourced ingredients, and packaging. Good food etiquette means throwing away as little as possible, and whenever possible, surplus food is donated to Fattighuset after the festival.
Waste Management
All waste from the festival is sorted at the source. This applies during setup, teardown, and the wrap-up. We encourage employees and partners to reduce packaging and the amount of waste.
In 2025, the festival generated a total of 1,310 kg of waste. Of this, 490 kg was sorted at the source or sent for special handling, which corresponds to a sorting rate of 37.4%. The sorted fractions consisted of cardboard/paper (150 kg), food waste (120 kg), plastic (50 kg), and 170 kg of special waste.
Residual waste totaled 820 kg and represents the largest waste fraction. This is mainly due to soiled and mixed materials that are classified as combustible residual waste.
Compared to Miniøya 2024, we have a reduction of38 kg(–2.8%)
Over the past three years, Miniøya has significantly reduced its total waste volume. From 2023 to 2025, total waste was reduced from2,678 kg to 1,310 kg, representing a decrease of approximately51%. The largest reduction occurred between 2023 and 2024, when the amount of waste was nearly halved.
The trends indicate that measures aimed at waste reduction, responsible resource use, and improved waste management have been effective. The figures show that there is still potential for further efforts to reduce residual waste and increase the rate of sorting and recycling. At the same time, we are actively working to ensure a sustainable inventory and promote circular use, for example with furniture, signs, and decor.
Green Rider
We encourage all artists to take an extra look at their rider and order only what they actually need for a great day at work with their most important audience.
Please feel free to contact the artistic director and sustainability manager laila@minioya.no if you would like to learn more about our work.
We support the Green Event Standard launched by NKA and the Øya Festival in 2023.
