Background of the project:
The cultural sector has experienced a significant brain drain in recent years as a result of economic hardship, the pandemic, and cuts to cultural budgets. There is a need for a comprehensive recruitment effort in the event management field.
In direct response to this, we launched the Miniøya Festival School in 2023. Through training and guidance in the practical and theoretical aspects of event management, we aim to inspire and motivate future cultural professionals. We want to show that the cultural sector is an industry with exciting job opportunities and a great career choice—as well as a meaningful place to volunteer. The Miniøya Festival School is a training program in festival management for young people aged 16–19 who live in Oslo.
At the festival school, participants gain valuable insight into festival and event management through coursework and hands-on experience. The course content and practical components are tailored to the participants’ interests. We offer in-depth study of topics such as venue production, set design, health, safety, and the environment, communication and marketing, volunteer coordination, and more.
Miniøya 2024 receives support from the Bergesen Foundation, the Sparebank Foundation, and the Anthon Foundation.
